Formatting Your References Page
- Begin the list on a new page with the title “Works Cited” centered at the top.
- The entire list should be double-space.
- First line of each cited work begins at the left margin – all other lines of that cited work are indented five spaces.
- Authors are listed with the last name first followed by the first and middle initials (e.g., Skinner, B.F.)
- Alphabetize the list by the last name of the first author of each citation
- Punctuation & Capitalization:
Ø Book Titles: Italicize the title. Capitalize only the first word of the Book title and Subtitle. All other words should be in lowercase except for Proper Nouns. (e.g., Universal health care: What the United States can learn from the Canadian experience)
Ø Article/essay/chapter titles: Capitalize only the first word of the Title and Subtitle. All other words should be in lowercase except for Proper Nouns. (e.g., Water: Two billion people are dying for it)
Ø Periodical Titles: (Magazines, Journals, & Newspapers) Italicize the title. Capitalize all major words in the Periodical Title. (e.g., The New York Times)
